From an L.A. Times profile of Antonio Villaraigosa (March 16, 2001) I find the following facts:
Birth Name: Anthony Villar, expelled from Cathedral High for brawling, had a grade point average of 1.4, dropped out of Roosevelt High, later took night classes and accepted by UCLA. Failed to pass the State Bar Exam four times, fathered two children out of wedlock by the age of 25 (different women); arrested for assault on his twenty-fourth birthday, a protege of Cloria Molina, who appointed him to a post on the MTA Board. He later helped direct a $93,000.00 contract to her husband. Won a State assembly seat. Was divorced by Corina Raigosa, for marital infidelity.Helped spend millions of taxpayers dollars while in Sacramento; and lastly, wrote a letter urging President Clinton to pardon convicted drug dealer Caros Vignali.
Just the man for L.A. Mayor. Yeah, Right.

Comment from Hal Netkin:
In verifying the above facts from the Times archives, I could not find that Villaraigosa was divorsed from Corina Raigosa, but the couple did separate for two years, after which they reconciled.
